Danielle Colley is the author of The Chocolate Bar Life, which was published by Hembury Books in August 2024. Danielle made this video today while she was travelling back from her book launch at Melbourne Airport. She had been told the day before that her book was featured in Better Homes and Gardens, so she went to the magazine rack at the airport and found the magazine. Inside was a feature article about her book, which describes her experiences and insights around burnout.
Danielle becomes emotional as she speaks of the happiness her hard work has brought her, and the people she has connected with as a result of publishing her book. It goes beyond just the writing of the book, she says.
Seeing Danielle’s fulfilment, purpose and drive is the reason why Hembury Books exists. Our authors do amazing things. It really can be life-changing if you have the drive and focus. It takes a lot of hard work to write an amazing book, but Danielle shows that every drop of sweat was worth it.
Media coverage galore
Danielle has received an enormous amount of media coverage in the first month since her book was released. She has been on The Morning Show on Channel 7 (I went with her and it was so exciting!), as well as Women’s Agenda, She Defined, Mumlyfe, Ausbiz TV, Prevention Magazine, Leading You with Julie Hyde, Mindfood, Separate Bathrooms with Cameron and Alison Daddo, HR Leader and many others.
She has also done a host of speaking and presenting gigs, including a three day women’s leadership summit in Canberra for The Leadership Institute.
In September, Danielle received a silver award in this year’s Nonfiction Book Awards. The judge said in the announcement: “Funny, self-deprecating, and honest, Danielle Colley feels like an old friend. The Chocolate Bar Life is like a Friday night movie-night with drinks, snacks, and a roomful of hilarious family members and friends along for the ride. Personal stories illustrate Danielle’s no-nonsense, common-sense suggestions for creating balance between work, rest and play. She delivers proverbial butt kicks with love and humour. A thoroughly enjoyable read.”

Danielle writes with humour, grace and vulnerability about the very topical issue of burnout. She also has a lot of drive. Journalists are hungry for sources who will tell it as it is, and who avoid empty catchphrases and jargon.
If you have a burning desire to write a book on a topic that is important to you, people will listen to what you have to say. Producing an excellent book is vital to being given a platform to share your insights.
